Modeling and Optimization of Intermittent Gas-Plunger Lift Installations

A new model for intermittent gas-plunger lift installations is presented. The model takes into consideration reservoir inflow performance and gas lift valve behavior. A novel feature of the model is its ability to incorporate laboratory data relating liquid fallback to plunger rise velocity as an integral part of the dynamics.

Qualitative verification of the model is performed. Implementation of the model as a key tool to optimally design new installations or optimize existing installations is presented. Finally, utilization of the model as a tool for optimum selection of artificial lift method is illustrated.
