Behavior of Hydraulic Jet Pumps When Handling A Gas-Liquid Mixture

The performance of hydraulic jet pumps when pumping two-phase gas-liquid mixtures is not well understood. An experimental study using air at flow rates from 0 to 350 Mscf/D, and water from 0 to 1250 bbl/D conducted using a plastic jet pump. Two-phase suction pressure ranged from 100 to 470 psig, discharge pressure from 200 to 500 psig, and power fluid pressure from 600 to 1200 psig . Two nozzle to throat area ratios were used: 0.234 and 0.380. Measured values of dimensionless pressure recovery and pump efficiency are modeled using the industry standard liquid equations. Friction loss factors for the nozzle and throat diffuser are statistically modeled. Pressure profile along the throat diffuser is also reported.
