Performance Model for Hydraulic Jet Pumping of Two-Phase Fluids
(90 pp)

(138 words)The degradation of hydraulic jet pump performance when the suction fluid is a gas-liquid mixtures is not well understood. An experimental study was conducted using a two-phase suction fluid comprising air at flow rates from 0 to 185 Mscf/D (0-61 1/s@ ST}l) and water from 40 to 860 bbl/D (0.074-1.6 1/s). Power fluid was water supplied at a stock jet pump. Two-phase suction pressure ranged from 100 to 1400 psig (0.7-10 MPa), discharge pressure from 800 to 2000 psig (6-14 MPa), and power fluid pressure from 2000 to 3000 psig (14-21 MPa). Four nozzle to throat area ratios were used: 0.2331 , 0.2994, 0.3786 and 0.3817. Measured values of dimensionless pressure recovery and pump efficiency are modeled using the industry standard liquid equations. Friction loss factors for the nozzle and throat-diffuser are statistically modeled on dimensionless pump geometric factors and operating conditions.
